Greetings to you all . i must at the start of my message take this opportunity to thank VODAFONE FIJI LTD for coming forward with a sponsorship package towards Gold Town Carnival 2008 & 2009 . in Addition I thnak all the Co-Sponsors namely Natural Waters , Vatukoula Gold Mining Limited , Colonial National Bank, ANZ Banking Corporation and Farmers Supermarket for coming forward and helping.


Tavua /Vatukoula is the region where some of the countries poorest live in .
Tavua Town Council together with some citizens of the District embarked on organizing an Annual Fundraising Carnival namely GOLD TOWN CARNIVAL. them main objective being fund raising to assist the under privileged in our society and alleviate poverty.

since its inception in year 2005 the carnival has become extremely popular becuase of its purpose and has become the only annual carnival in district .In the last 2years the carnival assisted some 300 people for various things . a significant number of under privileged students are helped with fees , stationery, fare and lunch.some funds have been used to rebuild homes and in medical cases. The hospitial and police department has also benefited as recipients of grants.


this year the Carnival is scheduled to commence from 19 th of November , 2008. the 4 day event is expected to attract a huge crowd. It is expected that 4 contestants would be contesting for Miss Charity Crown.Tavua Town is still today dubbed as GOLD TOWN. It once was a busy town with a lot of activities. unfortunately a lot has changed and some sectors of the community are now struggling to make ends meet.

with the closure of the EGM and 1,700 miners losing employment and the only source of income , the Carnival Committee is faced with more applications for assistance. The committee has closely monitored the difficulties faced by those affected and their children and assisted wherever necessary.The Carnival Committee intends to strengthen the parthership with other Non-Government Organization and government bodies to effectively fight against ever increasing pverty in our district. You can call assist by participating in the Carnival.
